Hydrospeeding on the Isère: who is it for?
Hydrospeed is an intense, high-energy sport practiced right in the heart of the rapids, using a specialized float board and fins. For a first-time experience, the "Gorges" descent is a great way to get a feel for the river. If you’re looking for more of a challenge, the "Perf" (Advanced) option takes you through more demanding rapids. Finally, for the ultimate experience, choose the "Must" option, a thrill-packed descent along the Isère River.
Hydrospeed is a demanding activity that requires good physical fitness, comfort in the water, and a genuine sporting spirit. It is especially recommended for those who have already experienced whitewater, ideally through a previous rafting trip. You must be capable of active finning, following your guide’s instructions, and managing your physical exertion against the current. Consequently, this activity is not suitable for everyone; depending on the conditions, restrictions may apply to those who are not comfortable in the water, individuals with certain medical contraindications, or those whose physical build is incompatible with the equipment. If in doubt, please contact us before booking to ensure the activity is right for you.
With Takamaka Tarentaise, our certified guides accompany you throughout the descent, helping you navigate the rapids safely. Unsure which option to choose, "Gorges," "Perf," or "Must"? The "Gorges" descent, while already intense and challenging, is the only one suitable for a first-time hydrospeed experience. The "Perf" and "Must" options are designed for those who already have experience and the necessary confidence to tackle Class III and IV rapids. Strong control of your float board, appropriate physical fitness, and the ability to follow instructions carefully are essential for fully enjoying these more demanding routes.

FAQ
What is hydrospeed?
Hydrospeeding involves navigating down a river while lying on a rigid float, also called an "hydrospeed", and using fins for propulsion. You are as close to the water as possible, offering a more intense experience than rafting. Our excursions take place on the Isère River, in Aime La Plagne.
What is the minimum age for hydrospeeding in Aime La Plagne?
The minimum age is 14, with a minimum weight of 110 kg.
Do you need to know how to swim to go hydrospeeding?
Yes, being comfortable in the water is required, as you will be in direct contact with the river. You will wear a wetsuit, a life jacket, and a helmet at all times.
What level is required? Do you need to be athletic?
Good physical fitness is highly recommended, as you will be using fins and remaining active throughout the descent. Prior experience with whitewater activities is also recommended.
What is the difference between hydrospeeding and rafting?
In rafting, you sit in a boat as part of a team. In hydrospeed, you are alone on your float, directly in the water, an experience that offers greater thrills and requires more physical exertion. If you’re undecided, rafting is more accessible for families and younger participants.
What should I bring?
A swimsuit and a towel. We provide all the other necessary equipment.
Is the water cold?
That’s right! 😁 The Isère River is fed by melting glaciers and snow, so the water stays cold even in the summer (around 8 degrees Celsius). A full-body wetsuit will keep you protected from the cold throughout the entire descent.
What is the best time to go hydrospeeding in Aime La Plagne?
The season runs from early May to the end of September. You can come whenever you like, keeping in mind that there will be water until the end of September—thanks to the dam—and that there is generally more water in the spring due to the snowmelt.
